SSL International plc (“SSL”) has today announced the proposed closure of its manufacturing facility in Derby, which produces part of the company’s footcare range. Under this proposal, manufacture of these products would transfer to SSL’s facility in India.

Following consultation with employees and trade union representatives, a gradual run-down is planned, with the Derby site anticipated to close in December 2005 with the loss of 124 jobs. For the employees affected by this closure, SSL will provide a comprehensive package of support, including counselling and job search services.
